If you are researching facilities for having the surgery, it is very important that the center or hospital that you choose has a support system from pre-surgery and for at least 3 years following your bariatric surgery. Although most people will never eat large portions again, there is nothing to keep you from grazing your way through the day. It is possible for a bariatric patient to be able to consume 2,000-3,000 calories daily depending on what you are eating and how often you are eating. After the first year, it will be possible for you to gain weight. Forming healthy habits and setting up a good support system is what is going to keep you at your goal weight.

People all over the country struggle with their weight and someone on the other side of the country might be the person that is able to motivate you to stay focused. A forum or bulletin board would be a great place to meet that person or someone that is going through the same thing you are going through.

There are forums especially for bariatric patients that have gained weight following surgery. Its members all work together to help each other get back on the program. There are a number of types of support that one can use to stay focused. Bariatric surgery support groups are not difficult to find and you may want to join more than one group. Any hospital that has a bariatric surgery center most likely will offer support group meetings.

Bariatric surgery is a big step and it is also a journey just like any other weight loss program. It is important that you have a plan and try to stick to it. It is also important that you not beat yourself up for slips. Learn from it, pick yourself up and move on. Know that the weight loss surgery is not the end. It is actually just the beginning.
