Lap Band Surgery Failure

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Lap band surgery failure is a possibility as well as a failure for other types of weight loss surgery. Just because you have had bariatric surgery, does not make you exempt for gaining weight. You must understand that weight loss surgery is a tool and there is a lifestyle change that is necessary to be able to maintain that weight loss.

It is easy enough to believe that this surgery is a miracle with all the advertisements that have started appearing everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, it can change your life dramatically. But this is not a procedure you can have and continue doing what you have done in the past and not expect to gain weight in the future.

At first, the weight will come off easily. But your body will become used to the changes and your weight loss will eventually slow and then stop. If you have not reached your goal, losing more weight will require the same steps as anyone else would have to follow to lose weight. That is, you will have to reduce your calorie intake and increase your activity level.

The biggest majority of lap band surgery failure cases are due to the patient failing to make the recommended changes to maintain their weight loss. There are support groups that are able to guide people through the steps that will keep them on the right track. These groups are full of people that have gone through what you are going through and you can benefit from their experiences.

There are also forums online that offer the same support. I have also seen forums that are especially for people that have gained weight after gastric bypass surgery. You do have resources for having a successful weight loss surgery and maintaining your weight loss. It is a matter of not only finding these resources, but using them. There is no reason that you should have a lap band surgery failure if you follow the program that is given to you by a baritatric medical professional.
